Job description - Greenhouse Technician

Summary of Position:

The Greenhouse Technician is responsible for the hands-on manufacturing of greenhouse systems and components, handling material, maintaining accurate records of manufacturing processes, loading customer orders, performing physical labor, creating custom shade cloth orders, and operating equipment to help maintain an efficient and timely workflow. The Greenhouse Technician also works with customers through both sales and field visits.

Essential Functions for Greenhouse Components:

• Perform general labor tasks, including lifting and moving materials.
• Assist in maintenance, cleaning, and repair of equipment as assigned.
• Understand work priorities before beginning each work order.
• Complete assigned work within the given timeframe according to the specification.
• Report all nonconforming material to supervisor immediately.
• Train new greenhouse hires as necessary.
• Maintain safe operations by adhering to GK Machine safety procedures and regulations.
• Follow GK protocols on the proper use of cranes.
• Operate department bending machine, weld, cut, smash, and shear components to specification and work instruction.
• Maintain and make appropriate changes to production setups for each Greenhouse Series.
• Accurately pull hardware to count sheets.
• Process jobs in the correct sequence order, stage them accordingly and ensure orders are ready to be shipped when completed.
• Mark completed jobs with identification tags.
• Load customer material safely and efficiently during pick-ups.
• Unload, restock, and track inventory for delivered parts; communicate shortages.
• Maintain all quality specifications according to each job.
• Operate forklifts in a safe and effective manner.
• Any other duties as may be assigned by Management.
• Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.

Essential Functions for Shade Cloth:

• Measure shade cloth materials (up to 200’ x 60’).
• Cut, sew, and grommet shade cloth to the specific sizes for each work or sales order.
• Drive and maneuver a forklift.
• Mark jobs with identification tags.
• Adjust and clean machines as needed.
• Take inventory of shade cloth and communicate discrepancies to the manager and inventory control.
• Work with greenhouse technicians to build greenhouses during slow times.

Essential Requirements:

• Required: High School diploma or GED from an accredited school system or program.
• Driving: Required - The ability to operate a vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license, Preferred - The ability to operate forklifts in a safe and effective manner.
• Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
• Basic math skills.
• Excellent communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and problem solve with little direct supervision.
