Job description - Fabrication Quality Control
Job Summary:
You will conduct first-article checks, check final weldments before they leave the department,
and work with fabricators to help create products that exceed customer expectations.
Essential Functions
- Inspect, monitor, and ensure all quality standards are met for parts moving through the fab department.
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation and checklists for all inspections or tests of every process, part, or component, purchased or finished, involved in the production of a product.
- Identify each problem or issue regarding the quality of the products and make recommendations for changes and improvements.
- Rework or reject subassemblies or finished products as required
- Assist in the writing and updating of inspection procedures, protocols, and checklists
- Evaluate problems and make initial recommendations for possible corrective action
- Label and stage parts leaving the department accordingly
- Perform first-article inspections, in-process inspections, and final inspections
- Maintain, stage, and organize a proper level of welding supplies

- Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings, including weld symbols.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to pay attention to detail
- Strong leadership skills, work independently and problem-solve with little direct supervision
- Ability to collaborate with employees, management, and other relevant parties
- Ability to effectively present information regarding the quality management system and respond to questions from auditors, employees, and supervisors
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Qualifications and Experience
- Required: at least 2 years’ experience in a fabrication quality control position
- Preferred: 5 years’ experience in a supervisory or managerial position in an industrial fabrication shop or industrial industry
- Preferred: 5 years’ experience as a fabricator
- Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings and interpret weld symbols
Work Environment
GK Machine makes every effort to provide a pleasant, environmentally controlled office and facility atmosphere. However, this position will be required to spend some time in the fabrication shop, warehouse, and storage yard outdoors in all types of weather and will be exposed to dust, dirt, fumes, etc.
Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are typically Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The employee may be asked to perform overtime.
